How to Make Better AeroPress Coffee at Home

How to Make Better AeroPress Coffee at Home

You don’t need an expensive espresso machine to make incredible coffee at home.

Sometimes, all you need is a little plastic brewer and a few minutes.

Meet the AeroPress.

If you’ve spent any time around specialty coffee, you’ve probably seen one. It’s compact, simple, and surprisingly versatile—and it can produce an incredibly smooth cup of coffee.

But what makes it so good?

It Gives You Control

The AeroPress combines immersion brewing—where coffee sits in water—with pressure during the final extraction.

That means you can experiment with almost everything:

Your grind size.
Your water temperature.
Your coffee-to-water ratio.
Your brew time.

Change one variable, and your cup can taste completely different.

That’s part of the fun.

Start With Fresh Coffee Beans

No brewing method can compensate for coffee that has lost much of its aroma and character.

Start with freshly roasted whole bean coffee and grind it shortly before brewing.

For an AeroPress, a medium-fine grind is a good starting point. From there, adjust based on taste.

If the coffee feels weak or sour, try grinding slightly finer or extending your brew time.

If it’s overly bitter or harsh, try going slightly coarser.

Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment

There’s no single “correct” AeroPress recipe.

And that’s exactly why we love it.

Try different Latin American coffee origins. Compare a bright Colombian coffee with a richer Brazilian coffee. Try the same beans at different grind sizes.

Coffee becomes much more interesting when you stop looking for the perfect recipe and start discovering your recipe.

At Don Eugenio Café, that’s what we think great coffee should be:

A little ritual.
A little experimentation.
And something you genuinely look forward to drinking.
